Bhutan Black Nacked Carne Festival Tour

The Black-necked crane festival is held in the courtyard of Gantey Goempa (Monastery) , in the Phojikha valley in Wangdue. It is celebrated annually during the time when Black Necked Crane migrates to Phobjikha from Tibet in a group of 200 to 300. It is an occasion for the local people to rejoice the arrival of this endangered bird.

It is celebrated to create awareness on the importance of conserving this endangered bird and enhance the harmony between the local people and the Black Necked Crane. The local people and the students performs themed Black-Necked Crane folk dances and songs, mask dances, crane dances and many other theme based drama and entertainments. There is also local handicrafts exhibition and game stalls to entertain the visitors. Visitors get plenty of opportunities to watch and take close up photos of the Blacked Necked Crane in the beautiful and stunning valley of Phobjikha. this tour is a combination of Cultural and Black Necked Crane Festival Tours.


Day to day Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival in the Airport.

    Our representative will greet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel.

    Visit Rinpung Dzong and Ta Dzong.

    Dinner and overnight stay in hotel in Paro.

    Food and accommodation will be arranged according to your reservations.

  • Day 2: Paro - Thimphu.

    After breakfast, take a hike towards Taktshang. Also known as the Tiger’s Nest. It is the most visited tourist destination in Bhutan.

    In the evening, drive towards Thimphu.

    Dinner and overnight stay in hotel in Thimphu.

    Food and accommodation will be according to your reservations.

  • Day 3: Thimphu sight seeing.

    After breakfast, visit Kuensel Phodrang, where the largest statue of sitting Buddha is located overlooking the capital city of Thimphu. It will give you a panoramic view of the entire stretch of the city.

    Visit the Takin preservation center in Mothithang , on the way to Mothithang visit changgangkha lhakang.

    After lunch, visit Thimphu Memorial Chorten and Centenary Park.

    Check into the hotel and rest for the day.

  • Day 4: Thimphu to Punakha via Wangdiphodrang.

    After an early breakfast, drive towards Punakha. halt in Dochula pass for photography. Lunch will be served in lobesa (metsina).

    Visit the Wangdiphodrang Dzong (works of restoration is on-going due to the fire that razed the Majestic Dzong in 2012).

    On the way to Punakha, visit Chimi lhakhang and the Punakha Dzong.

    Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Punakha.

  • Day 5: Punakha to Phobjikha.

    After breakfast, drive towards Phobjikha.

    Check into the hotel in Phobjikha and lunch will be served.

    After lunch visit Gangtey lhakhang , and explore the valley of Phobjikha.

    Dinner and overnight stay in hotel in Phobjikha.

  • Day 6: The Black Necked Crane Festival.

    After breakfast, drive to the venue of the program and attend the Festival.

    You can also embark on an excellent photography detour around the valley. Catch some amazing clips of the Cranes. Snowfall and the cranes in the valley make it a wonderful vacation spot loved by every traveller who has enjoyed this heavenly abode of the cranes.

    Dinner and overnight stay in hotel in Phobjikha.

  • Day 7: Phobjikha to Thimphu.

    After an early breakfast, drive back to Thimphu.

    On the way to Thimphu visit the LamPelri botanical garden. For plant lovers it is an ideal destination to get a glimpse of the wide varieties of flora that is found in the botanical garden. Varieties of plants that are only found in some pockets of Himalayas can be found here.

    Upon arrival in Thimphu, check into the hotel and retreat for the night.

  • Day 8 : Thimphu to Paro.

    After breakfast , drive to Dechenphu lhakhang.

    Take a short hike to Tango Chari monastery.

    After lunch, drive to Paro.

    Check into the hotel in Paro.

    Visit Tashi chhodzong , visit to the Royal textile academy or the National library.

  • Day 9: Departures from Paro.

    After breakfast, drive to the airport and farewell.
