The Black-necked crane festival is held in the courtyard of Gantey Goempa (Monastery) , in the Phojikha valley in Wangdue. It is celebrated annually during the time when Black Necked Crane migrates to Phobjikha from Tibet in a group of 200 to 300. It is an occasion for the local people to rejoice the arrival of this endangered bird.
It is celebrated to create awareness on the importance of conserving this endangered bird and enhance the harmony between the local people and the Black Necked Crane. The local people and the students performs themed Black-Necked Crane folk dances and songs, mask dances, crane dances and many other theme based drama and entertainments. There is also local handicrafts exhibition and game stalls to entertain the visitors. After lunch, visit Thimphu Memorial Chorten and Centenary Park.

On the way to Punakha, visit Chimi lhakhang and the Punakha Dzong.

After lunch visit Gangtey lhakhang , and explore the valley of Phobjikha.

On the way to Thimphu visit the LamPelri botanical garden. For plant lovers it is an ideal destination to get a glimpse of the wide varieties of flora that is found in the botanical garden. Varieties of plants that are only found in some pockets of Himalayas can be found here.
Upon arrival in Thimphu, check into the hotel and retreat for the night.
After breakfast , drive to Dechenphu lhakhang.
Take a short hike to Tango Chari monastery.
After lunch, drive to Paro.
