Druk path trekking in Bhutan is a short trek, which leads from Paro to Thimphu, or vice-versa, crossing the chain of mountains that separates the two valleys. Although there are very few houses to see, there are wonderful lakes teeming with fish at 4000 meters (13,000 feet) and spectacular rhododendron forest that bloom in the month of May. In winter and in clear weather, there is a magnificent view over the high Himalayas. A climb through thick alpine forest and rhododendron to a saddle at 3590 meters, following in north to yak herder camps. You pass through Jimilang Tsho Lake (Sand Ox Lake) named for a bull that emerged from the lake and joined the cattle of a family that uses the area as a summer grazing ground. The lake is also known for its giant trout. Depending on the weather, good views of the Mt. Jichu Drake 6,989 meters can be seen, the peak that represents the protective deity of Paro to the west. The route passes Tsalu Ney, a 14th century Lhakhang (temple) on the site of a cave. You also pass through another lake, Simkota which is also a fishing spot. The route passes through a pilgrimage site, Phajoding Monastery and Thujidrag Goemba (monastery), a meditation center that hangs on the side of a precipitous rock face.
Starting from the museum, you trek through the Damchena Village up passing through blue-pine and thick alpine forests till Jela Dzong at 3560m, where you will camp for the first night. Then subsequent trail goes through high pasture lands, spectacular rhododendron forests with great views of Jumolhari and other Himalayan peaks. On this trail, you will also have opportunities see yaks and yak herders on this trek, and to fish in some of Bhutan's most beautiful lakes. The highest point of the Druk path trek is Phume La Pass (4,210m), from where you can see Gangkhar Puensum, the highest mountain in Bhutan. Your last night camp will be near Phajodhing Monastery that offers great view of Thimphu Valley.

The flight into Bhutan takes you to the great Himalayas, offering the most scintillating scenery of the world's nighest glacial peaks. On arrival, received by the representative of Yak Holidays transfer to the hotel where arrangements have been made for the night. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
Morning visit castle shaped Ta Dzong. Once a watch tower built to defend Rinpung Dzong during inter-valley wars of the 17th century. Ta Dzong now houses the nation's heritage, Bhutan's National Museum. Then walk down the trail to visit Rinpung Dzong. Afternoon drive to ruins of Drugyel Dzong, 18km from Paro town. It was from here that the Bhutanese repelled several Tibetan armies during 17th century. Also visit the Kichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines of the Kingdom. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
This is a short trekking day. The trek trail is rather gradual till the camp and if the weather is clear, the Paro Valley can be seen against the backdrop of snowcapped mountains.
You begin with about an hour and a halts climb. The trail takes you through thick alpine forest and dwarf rhododendron tress. You may seek yaks and yak herders around your camp site.
The trail follows the ridge and on a clear day the view of the mountains and valley are beautiful. The campsite is close to the Lake Jimilangtso. These lakes are known for their giant sized trouts and if lucky you may enjoy a well-prepared lake trout for dinner.
The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees and the lake of Janctso. You may come across some yak herders camps where you will have the opportunity to get a glimpse of nomadic life. The campsite is close to Simkota lake and if you are lucky, you can do some trout fishing.
The trek begins with a gradual climb. If the weather permits, you will have a spectacular view of Mount Gangkhar Punsum”, the highest mountain in Bhutan as well as other Himalayan mountain ranges from the Dochula pass. From here, the trek takes you downhill to Phajoding Cafeteria for a nights halt.
The trek to Thimphu is all the way downhill through a forested area of mostly blue pine. The walk, at a leisurely pace, takes about three hours. Back to hotel for a hot shower and delicious lunch.
Visit Tashichbo Dzong, the seat of the Royal Government and the summer residence of the Head Abbot and the central monastic school.
Visit the handicrafts emporium where Bhutanese textiles and other arts are displayed and can be purchased. Visit the painting and wood craft schools where the traditional art and painting are kept alive.
Visit the Memorial Chorten, a huge stupa built in memory of the third King who reigned from 1952-1972. Visit the National Library where ancient manuscripts are preserved.
Visit Simtokba Dzong (6 kms from Thimphu), the oldest Dzong in Bhutan, built in 1629 A.D. The Simtokha Dzong houses the largest monastic school in the country.
Drive to Paro and visit Drugyel Dzong (a ruined fortress – 16 kms away from the Paro Town). Although now in ruins, this Dzong is of great historical significance. It was here that the Bhutanese finally defeated the Tibetans and drove them back. From here too the peak of Chomolhari “Mountain of the Goddess”, alt. 7329 m (24,029 ft.) can be viewed on a clear day. On the way back, visit a typical Bhutanese farm house. After lunch at the hotel, take a leisurely walk to stretch your legs in preparation for the excursion to Taktsang view point.
